UNRWA is the United Nations agency responsible for the protection, care and human development of a population of some 4.6 million Palestine refugees living in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon, and the Syrian Arab Republic. The Agency is committed to assisting Palestine refugees in maintaining a decent standard of living, acquiring appropriate knowledge and skills, enjoying the fullest possible extent of human rights, and leading a long and healthy life. UNRWA is by far the largest UN operation in the Middle East with over 29,000 staff. Most of the staff members are refugees themselves, working directly to benefit their communities – as teachers, doctors, nurses or social workers.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

In accordance with Agency policy and procedures, the ideal candidate will:

- Record daily transactions and activities; and ensure the correctness of the supporting documentation.
- Estimate cost and pricing items produced.
- Set job orders and follow up current orders.
- Prepare the monthly, quarterly and yearly reports of wages, sales and stock balances.
- Be responsible for custody, safety and physical control of products.
- Update clients’ information and their respective purchasing orders.
- Draft correspondence and prepare reports related to the function of the post.
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES

- University degree in commerce with major in accountancy/Finance
- Two years experience in accounting
- Have working knowledge of financial modules of SAP ERP system (at least 1 year)
- Good knowledge in written and spoken English and Arabic.
- Ability to operate personal computers using standard MS applications such as Word and Excel.
- Willingness and ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people.
- Ability to interact effectively with international and national personnel.
- This position requires frequent travel to various areas in the Gaza Strip.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

- Basic Salary: Monthly basic salary $962.00 and monthly dependency allowance $18.65 and Group Medical Insurance GMI $12.00
- Contract Duration: six months. Extension is subject to continued need, availability of funds and satisfactory service.
- Leave: 30 days annual leave.
- Other conditions of service and benefits may apply.

- A regular staff member can apply to this LDC post but will not be allowed to assume such post through secondment as he/she needs to leave his/her current post to accept LDC appointment.

EQUIVALENCY

When the minimum requirements are not fully met, the Director of Human Resources; in consultation with the Director of UNRWA Operations, Gaza may exceptionally substitute part of the unmet requirements with a combination of relevant academic qualifications, additional professional training and progressive relevant work experience.
NB: Work experience alone or formal qualifications with no relevant work experience are not considered an acceptable combination.

Assessment Method
