Position: Position: Project Officer 
Type of Contract: Special Service Contract 
Location: Gaza 
Duration: 4.5 months
Monthly salary: USD 1,500
Expected start date: ASAP
Department: Gender Unit- Mainstreaming 

Background: 
UNRWA introduced the Gender Initiative in 2008 to address the needs of Palestinian girls and women in the Gaza Strip. This comprehensive initiative is designed to improve the capacity of women and girls to exercise their freedom of choice, take advantage of opportunities for personal and professional development as well as to address inequality at all levels of social, economic and political life. At the core of the work of the Gender Initiative lies the commitment to support and empower the most vulnerable people in Gazan society. 
Job:
Project coordinator will be responsible of participating and contribution in implementing and executing UNRWA`s Gender initiative projects, as well as she/he will be responsible for coordination the communication and Media activities related to the GIProgramme such ( banners, campaigns, documentary films…etc.) based on UNRW`s branding guide. He/she will work under the supervision of Programme Officer – Gender Initiative, Gender unit , mainstreaming.
Tasks and responsibilities
The Project, communication and media coordinator is responsible for:
Management and Coordination 
-Prepare project work and budget plans;
-Work with the local partner CBOs to oversee GI projects planning and implementation, including: budgeting, monitoring and evaluation (M&E and reporting
-Ensure the quality of implementation for GI projects' activities,  including the partnership with CBOs, recruitment and supervision of CBOs staff and satisfaction of beneficiaries;
-Participate in designing both qualitative and quantitative M&E tools for the project activities;
-Assist in preparing interim and final reports for different GI Projects; 
-Assist in preparing MoUs, ToRs  for GI projects as needed; 
-Committed to the GI regular meetings
Communication and Visibility 
-Prepare annual communication and visibility plan for GI projects; which will include:
-In consultation with Public and Information Office, assist to design and prepare communication and visibility tools; including leaflets, posters, banners,
-In cooperation with Gender team, organize event in different international and local ceremonies such as International Woman's Day; graduation ceremonies….etc.;
-Organize awareness raising campaign as requested; 
-Prepare press release as requested; 
-In consultation with UNRWA Seattleite Channel; prepare documentary films as requested by GI team;
-Provide briefing on the GI projects for donor's or any other delegations;      
-Supervise design, layout and printing of all materials, either in house or with a professional design company, as appropriate;and
-Act as key editor in support of media campaigns .
-Other shared tasks, as needed.
Qualification:
-A university degree from an accredited educational institution in English literature, human rights, engineering or other related field.
-Mother-tongue level written and spoken English;
-Strong computer skills.
-Working knowledge of publishing software; 
-Excellent copy-editing skills and meticulous attention to detail;
-Extensive proven experience of writing for a range of audiences; 
-Experience in producing publications from editing to print stage;
-Demonstrable knowledge of branding;

Experience: 
-Minimum of five years of working experience as project coordinator/ manager, with at least two years of  communication and media coordination  
-At least five year of working experience in the UN, INGOs or other related international setting in tasks directly related to fieldwork; and
-Minimum of three years of work experience with issues relating to gender and/or women’s empowerment. 
-Minimum Four years of working on communication and visibility field.

Language: 
Excellent  of spoken and written English and Arabic.
Competencies:
-Strong organizational skills (ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks);
-Positive attitude and strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills;
-Good knowledge of Poject management Cycle (PMC);
-Proven ability to exercise initiative; 
-Proficiency in using computer applications, including Excel, Access, and MS Word Major and can deal with electronic designing programmes;
-Strong writing skills (including experience with producing reports) and oral communication skills in English;
-Experience with interagency coordination and donor relations, and;
-Highly motivated, comfortable taking initiative and able to work with minimum supervision;
-Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral;
-Proven ability to work in a multi-cultural setting; and 
-Displays good judgment to political and cultural sensitivities
