Bethlehem Arab Society for Rehabilitation (BASR) is a non-profit non-governmental organization that is nationally recognized for its comprehensive, specialized and inclusive health, rehabilitation and development programs for the Palestinian population. As part of a partnership agreement signed with the French NGO Handicap International in order to implement a project funded by Canada-DFATD entitled "Improved Access to Essential Services for Persons with Disabilities in Highly Marginalized Areas of Qalqilya & Tulkarm Districts, BASR is currently seeking to fill the following position:



Position Title: Field Occupational Therapist

Location: Qalqilya

Accountable To: Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) Program Manager

Duration: One year contract, with possibility of extension

Job Type: Full time



Job Summary:

-Assist the mobile team members in screening and assessing the needs of PWDs in the targeted communities in Bethlehem and Hebron districts.

-Conduct home visits on daily basis to assess and identify the needed occupational therapy interventions for the targeted beneficiaries.

-Coordinate with the outreach team to identify a rehabilitation plan for each beneficiary and propose the proper interventions in compliance with quality standards.

-Facilitate referrals of the beneficiaries to the different service providers upon their needs in consultation with the outreach team.

-Conduct follow up visits for the beneficiaries to ensure the improvement of their functional and daily living activities utilizing some tools and toys.

-Conduct home based educational sessions on disability/rehabilitation related for PWDs their families.

-Develop and disseminate educational materials on disability/rehabilitation related for PWDs their families.

-Support the development of the family peer support groups for mutual exchanges based on families own experiences with disability.

-Identify appropriate assistive devices for the beneficiaries and propose the needed adaptations & maintenance if needed.

-Offer technical support for the beneficiaries and their families for the optimal use and upkeep of the assistive devices

-Evaluate accessibility in public premises (mainly health care centers/units/stations) and beneficiaries homes and identify the appropriate adaptive measures.

-Make sure that the needed accessibility adaptations done for the beneficiaries homes and the health care centers implemented according to the needs identified in the accessibility assessment, and according to the quality standards. Participate in the conduction of the need assessment to the health care centers staff to identify their needs on how to become disability friendly staff.

-Develop training sessions for health care centers staff based on their needs that identified in the need assessment.

-Organize and conduct training/awareness sessions for the health care staff on disability issues.

-Partake in writing technical reports and other requirements based on the approved timeline and format.

-Participate in the capacity building activities and regular staff meetings.

-Participate on data collection about the project activities and beneficiaries.

-Participate in conducting satisfaction surveys for beneficiaries.

-Participate in meetings/visits to different stakeholders for the benefit of the project.

-Participate in developing and conducting the mobility/independency/participation assessment for beneficiaries.



Professional Qualifications:

-B.A in Occupational Therapy from a recognized university.

-Valid professional license of Occupational Therapy.

-At least 2 years of professional experience preferably in the local communities.

-Ability to work within a team.

-Ability to work with individuals from different backgrounds.

-Ability to cope with stress and work under pressure.

-Strong communication and reporting skills in Arabic and English.

-Strong computer skills.
